Public relations is one of the fastest growing professions in the world. The profession has experienced an enhanced change in status over the years. Today's public relations professionals play an important role in helping their organizations reach overall goals and objectives.  The Public Relations Diploma Program will provide students with the high level of knowledge and increased skills needed to succeed in this dynamic and expanding profession.

Objectives

Outcomes

  • Understand the history, theory and ethics of the public relations profession
  • Employ strategic methods of public relations and communications planning and management
  • Work effectively across a spectrum of public relations functions and help create organizational effectiveness in an issues-driven environment
  • Develop a sound understanding of public relations case methodology to support objective decision-making processes and employ comprehensive analysis tools
  • Master public relations communications writing including; a well-tooled press kit, news releases, annual reports, newsletters, brochure content and personality profiles
  • Counsel management on policy decisions, and contribute to the functionality, vision and strategic effectiveness of an organization
  • Plan, develop and prepare communications information that maintains favourable internal and external communication and promotes a positive perception about an organization's mission and accomplishments.

Articulation for Credit

Graduates of the Public Relations Diploma Program may be eligible for up to 30 hours of equivalent course credits towards an undergraduate degree at The University of Winnipeg.

Completion of three of the following courses (108 hours)

Professional Edge Seminars: Completion of five one-day seminars or a combination of one and two-day seminars (35 hours total)
