Objectives
- To provide the theory and practical business and communication skills necessary for managing the human resource function in the workplace
Outcomes
- Work in a variety of human resource positions and be able to assume greater levels of responsibility as they grow in their human resource capability.
- Understand and comply with the employer's legislative and legal obligations including workplace health and safety regulation, WHMIS legislation, the Worker's Compensation Act, payroll compliance legislation, and employment standards.
- Conduct organizational needs assessments, analyze and modify organizational staff development plans and develop effective recruitment strategies to attract talent that satisfies the organizational objectives.

Articulation for Credit
Graduates of the Human Resource Management Diploma may be eligible for equivalent course credits towards an undergraduate degree at The University of Winnipeg.
Required Courses
Elective Courses
This course provides an overview of key events that comprise the
contextual history of labour-management relations, including how Western
countries achieved scientific, economic, cultural and political dominance
globally through innovation and free market capitalism. Participants will
also gain an understanding of the macro-economic impact of globalization
and the Knowledge economy. This course explores the legal framework of
Canadian society since the Industrial Revolution that defined the
legislation, principles and procedures of the modern workplace. Students
will gain an understanding of the roots of the unique contemporary
Canadian labour-management framework and gain practical knowledge in such
areas as human rights, performance management, misconduct and discipline
in the workplace.

Professional Edge Seminars: Completion of five one-day seminars or a combination of one and two-day seminars (35 hours total)*
*Note: The University Writing and Research seminar is a required Professional Edge seminar for all certificate and diploma students who do not hold an undergraduate degree.
