To sensitize students to the social policy and legal dimension of child development and to the values society places on children

Analysis of political climate and key trends surrounding ECE, and identification of principal Canadian and Manitoban social policies as they relate to children and families
Knowledge of key issues regarding the laws and rights of children and families including poverty, housing, special-needs children, Internet exploitation of children, divorce, adoption, foster care, work/family balance
Evaluation of flaws in various social policy initiatives and discussion of direction for potential solutions
