Objectives: 

  • To sensitize students to the social policy and legal dimension of child development and to the values society places on children

Outcomes: 

  • Analysis of political climate and key trends surrounding ECE, and identification of principal Canadian and Manitoban social policies as they relate to children and families
  • Knowledge of key issues regarding the laws and rights of children and families including poverty, housing, special-needs children, Internet exploitation of children, divorce, adoption, foster care, work/family balance
  • Evaluation of flaws in various social policy initiatives and discussion of direction for potential solutions
