This course will provide students with an overview of Canadian politics as it relates to public relations practitioners. Topics covered will include Canadian political culture, government institutions, political participation, political parties and elections, the role of media and public opinion. Covered also will be topics as they apply to municipal and provincial politics.
Outcomes:
This course is aimed at helping those involved in communications and public relations to understand how government operates. Through this course, students will obtain the following:
- An understanding of the Canadian parliamentary system, the Constitution, and the electoral system.
- An understanding of current Canadian and Manitoba political parties, their ideologies, and their relationship with community interest groups.
- An exploration of contemporary Canadian political issues including regionalism, Quebec nationalism, and Aboriginal self-governance
