Do you assess courses from previous academic study for transfer credit?

Applicants who have attended another university or post-secondary institution must submit officially certified academic transcripts of all course work previously completed. Transfer credit is assessed with the admission application. The University may recognize equivalent course work completed at another accredited educational institution. All transfer credit requests must include an officially certified course syllabus with a detailed description of the learning content and evaluation methodology.

Why would you not accept one of my courses for transfer credit?

The University may deny credit for previous course work due to:

  • Origin of course - an unaccredited educational institution;
  • Dissimilar learning outcome or lack of relevant Canadian content;
  • The evaluation methodology;
  • The final grade and its equivalency in relation to the UWDCE grading system;
  • Currency limitation - the original course is more than five years old;
  • The program residency requirement.

What is program residency?

To award an academic certificate, every educational institution requires its students to complete a specific number or percentage of program requirements through the residing institution. UWDCE requires that students complete two-thirds of the program requirements through UWDCE courses.

Can I challenge a course for credit through Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition?

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition challenges are not permitted in the full-time Professional Program Area.

Does transfer credit reduce my fees?

Transfer credits may result in a program fee reduction in accordance with the tuition fees and textbook costs associated with the course to which it may be allocated. Transfer credit and exemption requests will not be considered after the student intake appointment.

Can I challenge a transfer credit decision?

Applicants wishing to challenge the decision on their transfer credit assessment must speak to the Full-time Program Coordinator before their student intake appointment to appeal this decision. Any such appeals after the student intake appointment will not be considered.
