Attendance and Academic Requirements

Can I miss class occasionally?

The University expects your full attendance. This is a professional program and we expect professional conduct. Full-time programs are very intense; falling behind could compromise your success. While we understand that illness and unavoidable time conflicts happen, the University expects full attendance.

Absenteeism could jeopardize your academic success as UWDCE has attendance regulations that affect your eligibility for graded standing. Failure to meet the minimum attendance requirement may result in a failing grade and jeopardize successful program completion. Absenteeism also compromises functional group work and classroom relations.

Is there a Code of Conduct for the Classroom?

Students are expected to:

• Arrive promptly and attend class in accordance to the scheduled course hours;
• Respect the individual right to engage in class discussion without monopolizing "air time";
• Respect individual learning needs by avoiding activities that distract from a productive learning environment such as side conversations, eating noisy or aromatic food, and frequently coming and going from the classroom;
• Conduct oneself professionally at all times and refrain from behaviour such as swearing, shouting, bullying, or intimidation;
• Mute or turn off cell phones, pagers, and all other personal communication devices;
• Refrain from inappropriate use of computers (i.e., games, emails, and website searches) during class-time;
• Notify the instructor or the University administration of all class absences in advance, preferably by email and before 9am on the day of class whenever possible;
• Avoid scheduling personal appointments (dental, doctor etc.) or work shifts during class hours.

What kind of course-related work assignments can I expect?

The individual course instructor determines how a course is evaluated, and you may be required to participate in:

• Quizzes
• Tests
• Mid-term and final examinations
• Term papers
• Presentations
• Business letters
• Journals
• Case studies

What is the minimum passing grade?

You must achieve a minimum grade of "C" or better in all letter-graded courses and receive a "P" on all Pass/Fail courses.

What happens if I fail a course?

If you fail a course, the grade will stand on your transcript. You have the option to retake it or another authorized substitute at your own expense to meet the program requirements.
