- To introduce UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems from the perspective of a system administrator

- Log in and out of their Linux account
- Change their account password
- Understand files and directories on a Linux server
- Create and edit text files on a remote server
- Understand Linux users and groups
- Understand, set, and change file permissions
- Know what a Linux shell is and how to change it
