Serious Games Certificate

Bringing together the latest game technology, game design and game-based learning models the Serious Games Certificate delivers two streams of education:

1) Educator Stream:  A set of theory and pedagogical courses designed to prepare educators to use and understand the new world of game-based learning, the re-purposing of games for use in education, and the nature, structure and elements of game play and game design.

2) Game Developer Stream:  A set of practical courses designed to prepare skilled and experienced developers for employment in the Serious Games Industry.

* Note students must register for this program by term. Ie. All courses for Sep-Dec must be signed up for at once.

Objectives: 

EDUCATOR STREAM (204 HOURS)

  • Gain an understanding of game based learning.
  • Learn elements of game development and design.
  • Learn the theory behind the use of games in delivering learning.
  • Learn how to use games in the classroom.

GAME DEVELOPER STREAM (204 HOURS)

  • Learn how to design serious games.
  • Study the techniques used in creating a serious game.
  • Understand the tools used to create a serious game.
  • Understand the use of games and game technology in training and education.

Required Courses

Completion of all the Core courses and one set of courses from the stream of your choice. CORE COURSES: (TOTAL: 120 HOURS)

Elective Courses
