Indigenous Police Preparation Diploma Program (IPPD)

The Indigenous Police Preparation Diploma (IPPD) program will prepare individuals of Métis, First Nation, or Inuit descent to be successful in meeting the admission requirements of police forces across Manitoba. This full time eight month program is scheduled to run in September of each year.

To qualify for admissions, applicants must meet the following requirements.

  • Completion of their senior marticulation (Grade 12)
  • Canadian Citizenship
  • Completed Criminal Record Checks
  • Completed Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Valid Drivers License (Class 5)
  • Current Resume
  • PARQ Completed Medical

To graduate, students must receive a minimum grade of "C" in all courses within the program.

Objectives: 

  • The IPPD program goal is to prepare individuals of Métis, First Nation, or Inuit descent to enter law enforcement agencies in the province of Manitoba.

Outcomes: 

  • The IPPD program will focus on the academic preparation, personal wellness, and physical fitness training necessary to meet the rigorous entrance requirements for a career in law enforcement.

Career Opportunities for Graduates: 

Program graduates will be equipped for the workforce with a transferable skill set that will open up opportunities in a variety of fields including regional, municipal and tribal police forces corrections, and Justice departments.

Articulation for Credit: 

Six credits for Introduction to the Criminal Justice System.  An additional 3 credit hours (1000 level) unallocated towards Criminal Justice.

Additional Comments: 

The IPPD program is not intended to duplicate training delivered at a police academy, rather to ensure the success of candidates entering into police training programs.  Successful completion does not guarantee acceptance to the RCMP, Winnipeg Police Service or any other law enforcement training program.
